Menopause naturally occurs when a women's menstrual cycles stop most commonly between ages 46 and 54. For women, menopause is the beginning of a new phase of life. A gynecologist's job is to help guide women through this physical, hormonal and emotional change in the healthiest way possible. For some women, this may include hormonal therapy. During menopause, irritability, insomnia, weight fluctuations, hot flashes, and changes in sex drive are common. Although menopause and its symptoms vary for every women, most symptoms cease about a year after the last menstrual cycle. It is important for women to discuss questions or concern they might have about menopause and its symptoms at regular gynecological appointments.
